Since 1993, The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle has been providing annual scholarship funds in agriculture and environmental studies for students at Windward Community College (WCC). More than 80 students to date have received these scholarships. Many of these recipients have gone on to the UH Manoa, UH West Oahu, and UH Maui. Additionally, over 30 of them have received their degrees or certificates in plant landscaping, agriculture, subtropical tree care, and bio-resources technology. Since 1993, the WCC “Agricultural Scholarship Fund” has received over $33,000 from LKOC. Since its establishment in 2010, the WCC “LKOC Environmental Studies Scholarship Fund” has received over $35,000 from LKOC.
Windward Community College is an Asian American Native American/Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Serving Institution (ANNH), with over 75% of students identifying as one of these ethnic groups.
Many of these students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with responsibilities stacked high and economic resources low, and LKOC is proud to sponsor scholarships at the institution.
"Our students are fortunate to have donors like LKOC step forward and offer financial help." –Windward Community College Chancellor Doug Dykstra
“As part of our educational outreach, all of us at LKOC have been proud to provide these scholarships to the next generation of stewards of our ‘aina,” - Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle President Diane Harding “I support your organization's mission and work, and have personally benefited from the organization, as beneficiary of a scholarship award while studying at WCC. I got my degree in Arboriculture, and have gone on to use it both in my visitor industry life, as well as my work in human services." - JH, Past Agriculture Scholarship Recipient
"As a student at Windward Community College, I am the proud recipient of your LKOC Environmental Studies scholarship. I cannot express enough what your scholarship has meant to me ... in my studies in Agriculture and Sustainability ...and on my educational journey." -EV, Recent Environmental Studies Scholarship Recipient
“Thank you very much for the LKOC student scholarship that you provided to one of our Agripharmatech students who graduated 4 years ago. Today, she is only one semester shy of getting her Master's degree in Molecular Biology and BioEngineering at UH Manoa. She was employed last year as our Agripharmatech lecturer, teaching at WCC’s Early College Hakipu'u Leaning Center”. - Dr. Ingelia White, WCC Natural Sciences Department - Agripharmatech Program Coordinator, 2018
